Every April since 1937 the DeAnza Trail
Caballeros have followed the hoof prints of
Juan Bautista DeAnza who blazed the first
inland route from Mexico to San Francisco,
making camp near the Santa Ana river in
Riverside California.
The trail varies from year to year through
desert sand, over cactus covered foothills
and pine trees in the high mountains.
On the final night the lights burn late and
the riders are joined by their wives for an
evening of dinner and dancing.
